Our Story

The story of the Muskoka Chair Company really begins way back, even before our company founder and president, Michael Wroe, was old enough to hold a hammer. Mike’s grandfather sold his farm and moved just north of Bracebridge, where he designed a four-slat wooden chair that he hand-built and supplied locally to resorts and cottagers. As Mike grew up, he found he shared his grandfather’s love of wood craftsmanship, and in 1995, he built his grandfather’s legacy into a new business enterprise: Muskoka Chair Company. Now setting the gold standard in authentic, hand-crafted red cedar chairs worldwide, Muskoka Chair Company remains a small business driven by the passion to deliver a quality product and excellent service to each and every customer.

Now in its 26th year of operation, Muskoka Chair Company honours the past and moves with the times, adjusting our designs to meet fundamental ergonomic principles and expanding our product line to include the highest quality recycled-plastic Muskoka chairs as well as a wide variety of other outdoor furniture and accessories—without ever compromising on quality, endurance, or authenticity.

Quality, comfort, and style speak for themselves. Many of our clients seek us out because they’ve sat in a Muskoka Chair Company chair while visiting someone who owns one.

We manufacture everything in our shops, which means we can fully customize each product to your particular requirements. Whether that means a custom colour, a higher seat, or a smaller footprint. Every chair we produce bears the mark of distinction, our signature pewter badge. It’s our promise to you that you have invested in an iconic, timeless piece of Muskoka.

We’re proud to say that our chairs grace the outdoor living spaces of clients as far away as Japan and New Zealand, but we also recognize that, while you can take the chair out of Muskoka, you can’t take Muskoka out of the chair. Our non-local customers often buy our chairs because they want to take a renowned piece of Muskoka with them to remind them of their time in this exceptionally beautiful place. We are proud of our long standing history of making furniture for the Muskoka Lifestyle – whereever our customers take it.

Visit us online or in our primary showroom in Port Carling and our new Oakville showroom. We can’t wait to show you around!

There is always a chance that your family didn’t invent the Muskoka Chair, but I have no doubt that you have indeed perfected it.
